People are claiming it's because being alone with a man in the woods is more dangerous than being with a bear.
Why are people trying to make the image of the bear be more friendly than we were taught they were?

Teddy bears are cute and cuddly. Unless they're the weird type with the video cameras for eyes always watching you. Thanks government spies for ruining those too.

So if people want to really have the debate they are currently having to compare the dangers of men, maybe pick something else. Like encountering a blizzard. Or an asteroid. Or a banana.
